Need something else?
I’ve been doing some deep diving into the strange font ventures of William Morris. So naturally, I decided to create my own interpretation of his pretty darned ugly Roman face. The font is actually “ugly” in many good ways. But, look it up. You’ll see the CAPS. My goals was to amplify the good ugly, and I landed on what is, to my eyes, something very pretty.
WT Morris Roman is based off his Golden produced for fine bookmaking at the Kelmscott Press. That face was based on some early Jenson cuts, but with thicker and more uniform strokes. However, some of the strokes kept by Morris make it mostly unusable in a digital age (which makes sense), and some of the widths of characters make it hard to use in any age.
This font is my attempt to reconcile all these things; I love me a good, beautiful, ugly typeface.
